First Chinese Model for Vogue

Vogue Italia’s January 2013 cover girl Fei Fei Sun is the first Chinese to score a solo cover of any Vogue edition. Steven Meisel shot the Chinese model in a homage to ’50s supermodel China Machado.

We seldom see Asians or any model of ‘exotic’ ethnicity on the cover of a prestigious magazine. Is this a sign that the fashion world is ready to change the diversity of cover models? I hope so. [FB]fei fei sun for vogue italia

  1. Gorgeous! Am proudly asian*-*

    • That ‘s so nice to hear eallind. I am a proud Asian too so as a proud Filipino.

  2. I hope so too, the racist paradigm is boring already.

    • That is so right redpilloutlaw. I guess we could expect more from here.

      • Jamie, I’m hoping. She’s beautiful!!!! But they always block and progression of models other than white, except once in a Blue Moon. Vanity Fair, with the actors…

  3. Oh wow stunning. Such beautiful facial structure and symmetry. The almost monochrome colours with colourful accents are really well balanced in that shot. That is the point where photography matches the beauty of painting.

    • I couldn’t agree with you more dapperdolly. The monochrome atmosphere is very clean yet extra elegant.
